room colors

I have dark wood furniture with white curtains, white plastic desk and chairs, and a light blue chair. What would be some good colors to get the room to come together? I also have a purple couch but planning on covering it (need some help on that too). I really like the domino magazine look (very unique and modern, martha stewart like). I also would like to put up some fashion illustrations, but don't know whether to get small or big and what color. I really need help on this one..I'm always watching HGTV and really want to redo this room. Thank you!!

i have similar colors in my home. i have a relatively open area, and was able to paint my living/dining area a benjamin moore paint called cape hatteras sand. it's a neutral taupey color, and my kitchen area a california paint entitled tudor ice, a lighter shade of bluish-silvery grey. both shades really look fab with dark wood, white trim and curtains, my brown sofa, and light blue antique upholstered chairs. Both are neutral enough to compliment many other accessory colors. good luck!
