painting stripes
kapav
I would like to paint a bedroom wall with stripes. Has anyone ever painted stripes using the same color paint but a satin paint and a flat paint to make the contrast.

I have not done vertical stripes, but, I have done a horizontal line around a room, painting each half a different shade. Since I did experience some bleeding though under the painter's tape, I would like to make a recommendation. If I were doing this, I would paint the entire room in the flat paint. I would then work with my math skills, and figure out the stripes (how big they should be and how much space between them to ensure continuity around the room), get them measured and then get them taped off. Then I would break out my flat wall color again, and on the inside of the stripes that you want to have shinier, I'd paint over the edge of the tape to seal it from being able to bleed underneath. When the paint is dry, I would then paint the stripes with the shinier finish. However, I feel that I must mention that I did see a similar process on a decorating program, and instead of glossy paint, they used a glossy polyurethane, which I would think would be quicker, just watch out for drips! Either way, if you decide at a later date to remove the stripes, you will be left with "ridges" on the wall due to the uneven coats of paint where the stripes were. Which will require you to sand them down before repainting.I hope I was able to help you out!
