new room with wrong color carpet!

theBirdson
Hey everyone,Here's my problem: I'm moving out of a modern, spacious duplex into my parents' home to save money for the next year or two. Space/storage issues aside, my only gripe with my new bedroom is its light blue carpet, which totally clashes with my green/brown/taupe decor from my other place. No way am I going to buy all new stuff for this temporary habitat. I'm planning to paint the walls to a nice taupe/oatmeal neutral (they are icky blue now too), but I sure can't rip out the carpet on the whole second floor. :) I'm thinking of using rugs to help cover the gross old thing (it is a little stained and worn too). Does anyone have any suggestions/experience with making the LEAST of a bad carpet/bad carpet color? Drawing the eye upward, using carpets, strategically placed furniture? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

One option would be to simply add some blues into your exisiting neutral decor to blend the rug in with the items you already have.Another option is to put a neutral shade area rug over the exisiting carpeting to disguise it.If the carpets are stained, you might want to consider calling Stanley Steamer to come over and give them a good, thorough cleaning...you might hate them less if they are clean.

I would either just ignore the carpet color, or go with what ju-ju suggested. It's temporary, so concentrate on getting your own place when you can, and imagine how you will decorate it then. I mean really, who will see it but you, and how much company will you be having over, in your bedroom in your parents house?

"how much company will you be having over, in your bedroom in your parents house?" hehe, you are right, i just am very passionate about color and cohesiveness, and would like to be happy and peaceful at least while in my little "sanctuary" from the rest of the chaos. :)

You might go with a light shade of taupe to repaint with, and store, hide, or cover up some of the green/brown or things you have that clash, only using the lighter shades that would sort of go with the light blue carpet. A comforter, a few throw pillows, some throw cloths, and soft lighting might just get you through this temporary situation. Have you tried cleaning the carpet?
