matching room colors

grangran
My house is split level - the ground level is terra cotta & wheat - does the hallway at the top of the stairs have to match the greatroom colors? It is a huge room w/ leather furniture, fireplace, & cathedral ceilings, open beams...The hall is approx 42 inches wide, 7 doors, casual family pictures & knick knacks on walls....There are about 5 wide stairs to the hall. If you can see the hallway from downstairs and the color clashes, then repaint it. If it blends, then leave it (unless you're just antsy to paint something). You could try something in the same color family, only a few shades lighter than wheat, gradually going lighter in color as the eye moves up. Or if you only see it from certain angles, try blocking the view from downstairs with plants or a decorative folding screen if it works with the flow of the room(s) and traffic pattern. (Overall, a gallon or two of paint is cheaper than enough plants to block the view).
