how to decorate around a TV

Sissy2637
My husband and I just purchased a 56 inch rear projection TV. My request was that the stand not be metal and contemporary but more along the lines of a piece of furniture. I won this battle but a new problem is now in place. There was an entertainment center there before with a beautiful bronzed mirror. The TV now over powers the mirror and throws the entire room off balance. Any suggestions on how I can either add to the space and keep the mirror or what I could do over this large TV to accent the space and wall. thanks in advance!

Hmmm, hard to say without actually seeing the space and size of the pieces. Its hard to balance any room that has a 56" screen TV in it, to guys, that is the "decoration". There really is no way to take the focus off the huge TV, "so just go with it", because it is the focal point, so you don't need much decor pieces to draw the eye or add interest. You probably don't want bare walls around it either, but keep your decor pieces simple and understated so as not to be distracting. At least try to position (center) the TV to balance with your other furniture, and then work your decor around that. If the mirror isn't working, move it somewhere else. Maybe you could replace it with something that has a more horizontal line to it, but shorter. Perhaps a wider, shorter mirror, several smaller mirrors, photos, or pieces of artwork placed side by side, a wide piece of decorative wrought iron, or a wide shelf (or staggered shelves) strategically placed on which to display some interesting items. Depending on how wide the wall is and how high your ceilings are, you might could add a shelf across the wall up high, to mimic a ledge, then add your decor pieces up there, leaving some bare space around the TV-O-Rama for a "frame" effect. And don't forget the most important part - payback! He gets the TV room, you get to "frou-frou" up another room where everything is just so, and he is not allowed. Fair is fair, right?
