dining room color?

SnushKid
hi! we just purchased a home (in january, actually) and have started the tedious remodeling task. the kitchen is almost done [painted red with a pine wainscotting (sry if i spelled that wrong!) with a cafe border.] the kitchen is coming along great and i love the colors, its kind of like a french chic country theme. so now we've moved onto the dining room. we've ripped down most of the wallpaper and started spackling [the walls were awful!!!] and are trying to pick a color. most of the decor is going to be similar to that in the kitchen, french, parisian, very romantic. We'd like a darker color for the walls, and the trim [which is in fantastic shape] white. any suggestions on colors? also, the dining room connects to the front room [aka our living room] and i was wondering that since all the rooms seem to have a darker wall color, would it be wrong to make that room a lighter color, like celery green? its very dark in there and the lighting is poor, that's why i'd prefer a lighter color.. any suggestions or comments are appriciated! :-) btw, the floor in the dining room, as well as the living room, is a dark wood. we need to refinish it, but we'd definately like to keep it the same color.thanks!

How about a more neutral shade on the walls and continuing the red from the kitchen throughout the dining and living rooms with your fabrics (curtains, chair covers, throw pillows and upholstered items) and accessories and artwork and/or even a red accent wall? This would tie the 3 rooms together (which appear to be open to each other) without overwhelming you with red. I would look at the pieces you already have and plan to use (furniture, rugs, fabrics & wood items) to find a neutral color that is either in them or that compliments them and looks good against your red kitchen. It sounds hard, but, it really isn't. Sometimes even a throw pillow or a piece of wall art has all the colors you like in it and you already know that they look great together. Good Luck!

the first color that came to mind was a nice yellowish gold color i think that would look nice with the red and it will bring in some light to the room

I would go with a light latte colour and use red in the curtains, accessories and seat covers. If your rooms are all open to each other you should go with a continuous colour theme. The red walls and dark wood floors sound beautiful and I would NOT put green in there, but a lighter colour is a great idea, hence my idea of a light latte with red access. My home is black and white with pink, purple and lime green accents. It is small and open and makes for simple flow.
