Can ceramic tile be painted?

TurtleDove
It depends on what kind of tile it is, what you intend to paint it with, and where you intend to put it. In general a ceramic tile with a high fire (very shiny) glaze is difficult to paint-- you'd want to use a paint designed for glass, seal it very well, and put it in a location where it won't be scratched. A more porous feeling or unglazed tile can be painted as long as you seal it afterwards. Ceramic glazes are essentially colored glass so you could try different materials and methods of painting on a glass bottle to see what might work.

Yes! My husband insisted on painting our ceramic tile in the bathroom, including the tiles inside the shower, even though I was thoroughly against it. Surprisingly, I've only had to do one touch up in 3 years, and that was from an unwise scrubbing that scraped off some of the paint. He used a primer meant for bathrooms and then a paint also meant for bathrooms. He did not sand the tiles first, which I imagine would help the primer stick, but that really hasn't been a problem for us. I also have a friend whose bathroom was completely painted prior to her moving in. 4 years later, it still looks great. I say go for it.
