brickhouse

i-luv-nyc
I have a dilemma - my house is a dark brownish red brick with matching grout. The roof is a bit lighter. My trim is dark brown, YUCK... too dark... Any suggestions on my trim, I am thinking champagne or a light mocha color and putting shutters up same color? help!! Oh and I live in Florida.

Any lighter color that contrasts with the dark brick will brighten it up. The colors you suggested sound great, or anything from bone, beige, cream, even some shades you probably haven't considered like moss green, grayish green, orange, or teal blue might even work. Grab a handful of color palette sample brochures from Home Depot or Lowe's paint dept. to narrow down your choices, and/or get a quart of the color and just paint some on a piece of trim (maybe in the back of the house). Test to see if it blends well with both the brick color and the roof shingles. If you want to go safe and traditional, you could go with an off white or very light beige, black shutters, and black fixtures (mail box, outdoor light, house numbers...) to contrast with the dark brick. If it is still too "ordinary" for you, then use bright colorful flowers, plants, and landscaping features to punch it up. (You probably have the perfect climate for some very colorful tropical flowers and plants.)
