Which kind of flooring is best for large dogs?

jellylou
I am about to build a new home. I have two large dogs and currently live in a house with burbur carpet. It is HORRIBLE and attracts the dog hair badly. I am wondering if I should put a plush carpet or preferably wood laminate flooring in our new home. Is there anyone out there that has an AWESOME floor they would recommend to someone with a dog hair issue? Thanks everyone!

Ceramic tile in a medium to dark color, and a Swiffer dust mop.

I had the same problem when we moved into our new house. We had to replace all the carpets because of the 2 dogs. We decided to go with a medium color hardwood, when we went shopping for it we took the sample home and beat the **** out of them to see how they held up. Thats how we found the one that seemed the toughest. We have had them in for about 4 months and they look good as new. Then after a bunch of years you can always refinish them, then they are as good as new. Def dont go with plush carpet, thats what we had and it is disgusting. You could also go with pergo, that stuff holds up to everything.

another option if you hate cleaning grout as much as I do, is concrete. You would be amazed at the stuff they're doing in coloring designer concrete these days. This is the first link I found, but it will explain what I'm talking about. Unless you can afford real stone, or the tile that is colored all the way thru, this is more durable. But be prepared to put in rugs, dishes don't just break- they explode. http://www.concretenetwork.com/concrete/interiorfloors/index.html

I've also seen some concrete floors that were stained and polished that were very nice looking. (They were in an office building.) Unfortunately they weren't done right and just as the business was moving into their new building, the floors started peeling in large chunks, and it was done by professionals! They had to re-do them, and so far, so good. Doing them is a process that requires the concrete being "etched" with an acid treatment before applying coats of stain, which is then waxed or polished. If you do go with that, make sure you get professionals that know what they are doing.

We have a dog and have brazilian cherry hardwood floors and love them!!! Her nails don't scratch the wood and I use a swiffer between moping w/hardwood floor cleaner. Our floors are gorgeous! We do have area rugs that I vacuum regularly. Good luck!
