Stainless Sink and Range
newtexasmom
Hi,I have a stainless steel sink and cooking range which is just about a year and half old. There are already some streaks, small scratches on the surface even though my maid keeps cleaning them every 2 weeks.I have seen so many products like Stainless Steel Magic etc which claim to restore the surface to 'like new'.Did anyone use any kind of such products for regular cleaning of the stainless steel appliances so that they remain scratch free..Also, about cleaning the garbage disposal, how & when do i need to clean the disposal? I do use lemon wedges, baking soda but i keep doing it on regular basis.

Once stainless steel is scratched, it's scratched. You can try metal polish or special cleaners. It doesn't get the scratches out, but it makes it look a little better. Your best defense is to use a gentle cleaner on a regular basis with a non-abrasive sponge. I have a stainless steel stove too, and it's scratched in the middle, between the burners where we throw the utensils on it, and where the spoon rest gets moved around a lot. I use a household spray cleaner and sponge, and for stubborn spots I use a plastic scraper or nylon scrubby (but my husband says that's what scratches it). He used a specialty metal cleaner called "Metal Gleam" on it, and it looked much better. It's for the metal, chrome, fiberglass, or Plexiglas on cars, motorcycles, boats, sporting goods, and household items, and is something he ordered off the internet, so I don't know if you can buy it in a store. (Personally, I love the Mr. Clean magic eraser sponges.)For the disposal, I hear you should run a handful of ice cubes in them occasionally to sharpen the blades. I use the lemon and baking soda also, or just fill it with hot water and a little dish soap or disinfectant cleaner sometimes.

I have found that car care polishing products are amazing for cleaning and polishing all kinds of metal. They also protect it well, and certainly are compatible in a kitchen. My favorite brand is McGuires. They have a kind that comes in a jar called "mother's", which I also love. The car finish polishes often will remove minor scratches as they have some rubbing compound in those that are designed to remove scratches.Happy polishing.
