Spare Bedroom / Office

Sweetlexilu
I have a two bedroom house and one of the rooms we use for the master bedroom and the other we use as an office/sparebed for guests. I need some decorating tips to make a guest room and office work together without looking to clostrophobic or unorganized. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a similar situation. I had a murphy bed (bed that folds into the wall) built as part of a wall unit. At the base on each side is a lateral file cabinet. There is room for a lamp on each file cabinet, and then above to the ceiling and on top of the murphy bed is open shelving. it works great!

The murphy bed sounds great! Also a nice contemporary futon or daybed with coordinating chair would take up less space and can serve as a "sitting/sleeping" area. You can use small 2 drawer file cabinets as end tables for the futon or daybed by putting a tablecloth and lamps on them. If you have to use them a lot, just fold back (or remove) the cloth unless you have company. Simplify your "office" and make it as streamlined and efficient as possible so it always looks organized, or try to find a desk that has storage for your computer hardware, or a computer armoire so it "folds" up out of sight when you have company. Use half the closet space for office storage if you need to, but leave a little room for clothes (maybe add some hooks behind the doors). If you also have room for a chest of drawers (for clothing and/or office supplies) you can put a small TV, radio, alarm clock, books, plants, a stand up mirror, a small bar set on a tray, anything that might be useful for you and your guests. After all that, if you have room in your "sitting" area for a "coffee table" there are many storage ottomans or even a trunk that could store pillows, bedding, or even office supplies. Hopefully you'll be able to save a space for your guest's luggage after they've unpacked, like under the bed or in the back of the closet.
