Red Oak Floors

color challenged
Help! My husband and I recently refinished our floors with a dark red oak stain(turned out beautiful) and now we are stuck for a wall color. All of the wood trim and built in cabinets are also dark with a hint of red. Currently the walls are white, but we'd like to add color and unfortunately, have no idea what to choose. Our China Hutch features blue dishes, but aren't really the center of attention. The black baby grand piano is the biggest focal point. The house was built around 1930. Thanks

We moved into a house with a newly stained floor with the same dark (cherry) red stain. The wood is also dark. The room came with a not-so-saturated medium yellow color that looks beautiful! It makes my room feel like an Italian villa. This is the best photo I could find online to show you the color: http://www.simpsonsrestaurant.co.uk/images/Simpsons%20Yellow%20Room.jpg Being an artist in love with color, I'd also recommend a medium or light teal/gray blue or a dusty medium green to contrast with the deep red tones and those colors look great with dark wood. Since the wood is so dark and the floors so rich, less saturated colors may work best overall. It really depends on whether you like a cool or warm feeling room; however, with the dark wood it'll feel wonderfully vintage! Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice! Yellow was our top choice because our dishes are warm yellows and olive green. We do have some display dishes that are blue, but not to many. Our kitchen is actually being done in a Tuscan style and should look good with it. I really appreciate the help. I think I'm getting better at picking colors, but I'm still so unsure. Thanks again!!!
