Oil Stain
lenne
I Know this isn't a decorating question, but would anyone know how to get a cooking oil stain out of berber carpet?

According to my handy "Pocket Guide to Stain Removers" (one of those little grocery store check out line booklets), it says in order to remove cooking oils from washable or non washable fabrics to:First, blot up excess oil with paper towels.Next, apply dry cleaning solvent and cover the stain with a pad of absorbent material dampened with dry cleaning solvent. Change the absorbent material as it picks up the stain. Then apply dry spotter. Cover stain with a pad dampened with dry spotter. If the material is strong enough, remove pad every 5 minutes and tamp or "work" with a spoon until all the stain has been removed.Flush with dry cleaning solvent, and allow to dry.Absorbent material: clean white paper towels or soft white cloths.Dry cleaning solvent: sold in most grocery, drug, variety, and hardware stores (this is poisonous and flammable, use caution).Dry blotter: a mixture of one part coconut or mineral oil, and eight parts dry cleaning solvent. Will keep well if tightly capped.I've never used this method, seems like a lot of trouble, but I hope it helps. Personally, I'd put a throw rug over it if I couldn't blot it up with something I already have on hand.
