New home, Need help choosing colors

chikenoodle
Hi,I'm getting ready to move into my own apartment. I feel this is the right time to really express myself in my home. Having said this, I have a general idea as to what I want for my bedroom.I'd like for my bedroom to be a retreat, a place to relax and unwind. However, I also want it to be warm and inviting and cozy. I have a lot of neutrals (Chocolate brown sheets, Beige/Tan blanket, similarly colored throws, etc.) and dark wood furniture. The real source of my indecision comes from what color to paint the walls. At first I wanted a dramatic color, but now I'd like something to invoke that warm, welcoming, relaxing vibe. Any suggestions on what colors and/or where to paint (ex; one wall darker than the others, darker lower half on all four walls, etc.)?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I love that you are starting with chocolate brown and beige, because virtually any color you choose will look great. I would consider a green beacause green is a calming color...when I say green I do NOT mean sage (too muddy-especially when working with browns and beiges), not lime (too acidic), not crayon green (need I say more??). I mean a soft, natural shade, something like a fern or reminiscent of spring time. Or I might consider a soft watery shade of blue, something with a touch of silvery-gray in it, which is also a calming shade. You might also consider the option of going in a more monochromatic direction, and going in the offwhite to beige family, and painting the wall behind your bed in chocolate brown....still calming, but with drama too!I love choosing colors, and to narrow down the possibilities, I usually go to benjaminmoore.com (they have a paint retailer in my town which is why I chose them, but you could go to sherwin williams' website too) and use their color selector option, so you can get a better idea what the colors you like will look like on a wall as opposed to those tiny little color ships you get at the store.Have fun and good luck....let me know what color (s) you chose!
