New Kitchen Color

Why not use the cranberry in the kitchen on one dramatic accent wall?? Preferably paint it on a wall that is clearly visible from the great room, and this will keep the red continuous throughout the 2 open spaces and it will not be over powering. Cranberry accents and accessories in both rooms will tie them together.

Hope you decided to go for it. I painted my kitchen red 2 years ago and I love it!!!! I've gotten so many compliments. My kitchen will be red for quite som time to come

I've had a red kitchen to two years as well and love it! I suggest you buy good paint if you are going to paint a dark color. We use Benjamin Moore paint and it covers really well. We could have gotten away with one coat but did two because we bought so much paint.

I didn't have time to read all responses, but if your cabinets have some molding to them, you could paint them an off-white or light tan and rub some light stain on them (I love Golden Pecan by Minwax) and that will look yummy with your red as well as go w/ french country. Go with a deep red, too- NOT bright, fire engine as that will be too brassy. And remember if you don't like it you can always paint over it- paint is cheap! P.S. I have a red dining room w/ tan trim and it is luscious!

I have a Chinese theme in my kitchen, a lot of red, and I LOVE it. I have red valances in the windows, red dishtowels hanging up, and one wall of red-painted cupboards. The floor is wooden, and I have red, beige, and tan striped rugs on the floor. It looks so cheery. Just don't go overboard. Keep it to accents, I'd say.
