Can you pinpoint what you don't like about it? Is it the overall look, the colors, the fabric, is the furniture uncomfortable, the arrangement is inconvenient, or maybe there is no overall harmony and flow to the room?Look at designing shows, books, and magazines, ask a friend with a knack for design, or consult a decorator for some tips. You can also look at the displays in furniture stores for ideas. Sometimes a coat of paint, a few accessories, rearranging or recovering the furniture, or just adding or rearranging artwork and accessories can make a world of difference.Mantles can be painted, tiled, or replaced to make a dramatic change and give your whole room an update or more cohesive look. If the mantle matches the look of the rest of the room, maybe redecorate it, or add a new screen to make it the focal point of the room.

I find sometimes that too much of a good thing is just too much! Do you have too much of the same fabric going on? Too much of the same scale? Is the scale of the furniture wrong for the room? Also sometimes if everything matches perfectly, we find it boring and unappealing. Maybe a burst of an accent color would help. Sometimes whimsical or unexpected items shake things up. Sometimes what we think is perfect isn't always what's perfect for our homes.
