I need ideas on the headboard of my king size bed.

My headboard is White lacquered. The trimming is that cheap gold plastic trim. We want to make a headboard. It can't be made out of fabric ( my husband smokes cigars). If I can find some old doors. The ones they had in the seventies, with the designs on them. That would work. Any ideas? I'm painting my Bedroom off white or beige. Staying with earthtones.

The doors sound like a creative idea. You might could find some at a salvage yard or antique shop. You could paint them any way you want. Maybe use some antique doorknobs for curtain tie back hooks on the wall.I've seen where designers make a headboard, and just attach it to the wall, rather than a free standing headboard that is attached to the bed frame.

i don't know what kind of style you are looking for with your new headboard, but i was recently in "pier one" and saw an interesting item hanging in the area where they keep the artwork and actually thought it would make a great headboard! it was a solid wood frame in a dark stained color an within it was a heavy gauge wire, or perhaps it was a heavy rattan type material (i'm not really sure) which was bent and swirled into a design....a pair or trio of those would make a really pretty and ineresting headboard...i don't recall that it was very expensive either! IKEA has a really nice headboard system that i'd love to get myself! it is the "malm" headboard which is modern looking in a variety of wood tone finishes and has two hidden side tables the slide out from within the headboard! if you're looking for something less modern looking, and are going to the salvage yard, take some measurements with you because if you can't find old doors, you could be on the lookout for something else that has the right dimensions, like some old windows or an old mantle piece or an old sign....happy hunting!

How about old window shutters? Go to salavage yards or antique stores to find the large wooden shutters like on old victorian houses. Like catwoman708, I think you should attach it to the wall not the bed frame.Or use painted plywood and crown molding to make a frame. paint whatever color(s) you want.
