How Do I Get The Cigarette Smell Out?
I Love OSU
My uncle GAVE me a very nice sectional couch and it's in great shape. We didn't want to buy anything new as we plan to buy a house in the spring and don't want to get something that won't work in the new house. My uncle is a smoker and the couch smells terrible. I've tried to use frebresh (spelling?) but it is not working. Any suggestions on how I can get the smell out?

Another great odor neutralizer is vinegar water. If the couch really smells that bad, I would try a few home remedies (Borax, vinegar, etc...), but chances are you're going to have to go with a professional cleaner because the smell is going to be all the way through the cushions & into the padding & batting in the couch itself. Good luck. Interested to hear how the Borax suggestion worked!

If the cushions are foam (rather than springs), and the covers have zippers, I recommend washing the foam rubber. The cheap way to do it is to put each one in the bathub with your favorite laundry detergent (not too much) and some "oxyclean". Lots of hot water. After a soak, stand on foam and use feet to squeeze soap and oxyclean throughout the foam.Drain tub, then at least two rinses. THen to speed drying wrap in old clean towels, and step on foam. Air drying is best. Turn often. Takes time, but works great. The water will be brownish black if there is much smoke. Happy stomping!!
