Granite
TICTACTOE
Tomorrow I am going to the yards to check out granite! Any suggestions to go with my white cabinets?

If you like contrast, what about a dark green, charcoal gray, or black? If you like a more neutral or pastel look, what about a sand, tan, lighter green or gray, or a terra cotta color?

Actually, my inlaws just finished a new home, and the cabinets are "aged" white and the countertops are a really pretty granite that is mainly a sandy color with lots of flecks of gold, black, blue and even a little bit of a rosy color. It is really pretty and it's not stark like the black granite usually is. Also a note, a friend of mine had a granite installed last year that is a chocolately brown color. It's gorgeous!!

Because your cabinets are white, you could use just about any color of granite and it would look fine. What I would take into consideration is how often you will be looking at it and how much of it you will have. Granite can be very even toned and uniform or it can have many different colors and have a variety of veining. If you're using the granite for a bar top or bathroom vanity top, you might want to use something a little more colorful or interesting. If you're putting it in your kitchen where you will have a lot of it and be looking at it often, I would probably tone it down. My philosophy has always been that the less you notice something, the longer you can live with it. I have white cabinets in my own kitchen and recently put in granite countertops. My son described the granite best as looking like oatmeal (it has cream, tan, taupe and black speckles). We also put in a tumbled marble tile backsplash in a buff color. It looks fabulous and will go with just about any color I would choose to use in my kitchen. I've also been told that dark colors such as green and black will tend to show streaks and water spots more. Always choose your granite by looking at the actual slabs. Do not go by small chips unless you are picking something like solid black. If you find a slab that you like, put it on hold. You would be amazed at how different granite can be from slab to slab. Remember it is not a man made material and therefore has a lot of variation. Good luck.
