Dining room COLOR

hello all i need help.. i love the sweet cottage look and the down home country look. and i am trying to marry the two. my dining room is right off the kitchen which is a yellow color. heres my question my dining room is a perfect square with 12 ft celings and a patina light fixture i was thinking of painting it a nice lavendar color.. so would that clash? and does anyone else have a purple dining room?
