Design an Ideal Medicine cabinet

newtexasmom
Hi,First of all i would like to thank everyone who has been posting such wonderful ideas for my other projects. It's really nice to know that there are so many people out there to share the information with you.And now, on to my another small project, how to get an organized medicine cabinet? where to store it so that it is easy to reach?Right now, i have all my medicines in one of the wider kitchen drawers.I layed out all the bottles and tablets and other extra stuff. Used to work well till couple of months back. But with 2 kids at home and allergies for my husband, now it is getting over cluttered and i have to dig into the heap of medicines to find the one i want. My husband gets angry saying he cannot find anything when needed.I want to come up with something which will be easier to identify(Labeling) by type like Cough, Cold, Fever etc. and also which can accomodate bottles and tablets etc.Just wanted to know what other people do about these everyday basics to make their life easy. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd definitely keep the "frequently used" meds separated from the rest. I might keep the prescriptions for each person/ailment apart too, so you and your husband don't have to rummage through everything when you are looking for a limited number of bottles. Apart from that, I don't really have any advice on how to keep them...maybe a basket-type thing with the trays that lift/fold out? But I don't know how extensive your collection is. :)

I do not have a proper medicine chest in my home either, only standard cabinetry in my bathrooms, which is not ideal for keeping bottles of medications organized. I presently have plastic bins for each family member, with their meds in them, which is definitely not working. I have been wondering if the cabinet inserts that are available in kitchen type stores, which are intended for the storage of spice bottles (they look like little sets of stairs) might be a solution. They fit into the cabinet, and each riser of the steps is another shelf, so, you can see the labels of each level.
