Decorating around a Plasma TV for the Husband
monicaskigirl
We just purchased a 300K home, and my husband bought a Plasma TV. Our family room I have compromised and it is manly, yet elegant enough for me...Brown Leather Marble coffee table - beautiful table lamps. I just don't want a fashion disaster and not know where I should place things. We have not started building yet. They should start in the next week, and I am already stressing over little details. ?????

While watching a decorating show this weekend, I saw them make a pretty elaborate picture frame to use around a plasma screen. It made it blend in with the rest of the decor. It looked very nice. That might be an option for you.

I'm wondering why you specify the price of your home... it doesn't seem relevent to your inquiry.

How about a long shelf that runs the length of the television? It could be mounted underneath and you could put candles on it. Sounds kinda funny, I know, but I saw it on the Ikea website once. I've also seen it in a West Elm catalog.

Stop stressing! Family rooms are intended for the whole family to relax in so you don't have an ugly TV or mess up the "good living room" intended for company. I'm assuming since you have mentioned the price of your elegant home, that you thought to have at least a small "formal" living space or "sitting room" for company who would be offended by your TV. Face it, most people's home life revolves around the family/kitchen/dining room/TV, so let your husband enjoy his plasma TV. You don't have to "hide" your TV like its a shameful thing. If you don't come up with a decorating solution (like an armoire, or some kind of "cover" or rollup shade) to camouflage the TV, then maybe it's not too late to include a secret closet or "dungeon" in which to hide your TV watching husband and children in when Martha Stewart comes over for tea. Sorry, I know I'm being facetious, but it's just to make the point that your whole family should be able to enjoy the family room and feel "at home" in their own home. You have the whole rest of the house to obsess over.
