Curtain Designs

HI,I am planning to get some window treatments for my breakfast area, study room and formal dining room. Since i have young and enthusiastic kids, i am going to go with valances and not any drapes. I got the design sorted for my breakfast area as there are 2 separate windows. But my study has 3 narrow windows which are 2-3 ft wide each side by side separated by 5-6 inches of wall. Can anyone tell me what kind of window treatment would look good here and point me to any designs(of your own house or websites)?I don't want too formal look for this room rather a cozy look. And coming to my formal dining room, i am currently not using it as a formal dining and i don't even have any furniture in their expect for a big nice wall frame and chandelier. Most of the space is used up by my kids and their play stuff. What kind of treatment would look good here so that it goes with my current usage of the room and also later in case i need to use it as a formal dining room only. And again, i am apprehensive about using long draperies here but i can still consider for this room only. Here are the pictures of Formal Dining room and breakfast area:BreakFast Area Formal Dining Room ThanksPavani

You might try looking at a 'Country Curtains' catalog for ideas. They have a nice selection and a variety of styles both casual and formal. Since I am always looking for a bargain and my home is pretty casual, I have actually purchased many of my curtains from 'IKEA', and am pretty happy with them (and they usually come two panels in a package as opposed to most places who sell them one panel per package). I've also been known to buy pretty fabric shower curtains (Target has a nice selection at good prices) and I use them either swept over to one side and tied back, or cut into down the middle and seamed, making two panels. They are generally far less expensive than buying curtain panels! I have panels that hang down a bit below the bottom of my windows (not to the floor), and I've never had an incident with any of my kids pulling on them or trying to climb up them, etc.

Thanks for your idea.

I think your idea of valances is great. It adds any color and design you want for each room, they're cheaper and easier to hang than full drapes, and if they don't hang down too far on the sides, the kids won't grab them or wipe their little noses on them. For simplicity, the 3 narrow windows can be treated like one long window, or do some swagged valances, with a swag hanging down over each window.

For the breakfast nook, I'd make valances myself and then go ahead and make a tablecloth to match. With the new heat tape you don't even need a sewing machine to do that. For the 3 windows, I think if you put curtain and hardware on each one it would be too busy. I'd use a valance across all 3. Or maybe even a upholstered box above it. If you used the box idea for the dining room, then you could have the hardware already there and hidden so that if you needed a more formal look, all you'd have to do is hang the curtains from the rod.
