Cleaning blinds

Single, ocd minded male, spent the Sunday afternoon cleaning window blinds, surely there is a simpler way to do this. I laid them out on the patio and scrubbed them with a brush, hosed them off and hung them to dry before re-hanging. Is there any easier way to get this done with great results?

Yes! While they are in place with the length extended and turned to the side that usually shows, dust them with a duster or swiffer duster. Then remove them to the shower or outside (hanging on a fence or laid out on the patio?) and spray them with "Scrubbing Bubbles" shower cleaning foam. Wait a few minutes, if needed give them a light brushing, then rinse off with the hose (or rinse them in the shower). Shake them off and hang to dry before replacing. If they need more cleaning than that, personally I'd just replace the blinds, unless they are expensive or custom blinds. I have the most trouble with the bathroom blinds because the moisture cakes the dust on. Regular dusting helps keep it from building up. If you don't already, when you dust, start with the ceiling fan and ceiling, then the walls and everything on them (blinds, artwork, shelves), then the furniture, lampshades, etc..., then vacuum.

Scrubbing bubbles, I just new there had to be something easier than my last attempt. I have the bubbles in the bathroom and use it daily to keep the shower clean. You are a gem! I have 14 left and hope this will solve all! Hope to save you many hours of work in the future.

Catwoman, thank you so much for the tip, cleaned four blinds in the time it took to clean one. Thank you!

Your welcome. I got the tip from a friend and sometimes I buy the cheap, dollar store version of scrubbing bubbles (but it doesn't smell as fresh). If anyone knew I was giving out cleaning tips they would laugh their heads off!

If you have blinds that have the stubborn brown stains on them, use oven cleaner. The cheap bramd will do, it works great on plastic, vinyl anything. Spray on, wait five minutes spray off with a hose, dry and hang!!

Then what about cloth vertical blinds? How do you clean those?
catwoman708
Hmmm. I've never had any cloth ones, but for general cleaning I'd probably just vacuum them with a brush attachment. Usually, each vertical slat is hanging from a little plastic clip and can be unhooked and taken down if they need more extensive cleaning. Depending on what kind of cloth the slats are, you might could wash them, hose them off, or spot treat them after you've vacuumed them off.If vacuuming doesn't work and you're not sure if you can wash the cloth slats, you might ask a dry cleaner or an upholstery cleaner/restorer what they would recommend, or try some spray on upholstery cleaner, or an at-home dry cleaning spray. It will probably be very tedious and time consuming, so if they are really dirty, you might check into buying replacement slats, leaving the fixture, hardware, and clips in place (count how many you need and take one slat with you to Home Depot or Lowe's).Be gentle with the plastic clips so you don't break them, and careful not to bend the slats.

You guys for cloth . go to the old reliable gain washing powders, run water in your tub and swish around, works great. Put in a little Mean Green (dollar store favorite.)It's really Mean on stains.
