Canopies for poster bed

newtexasmom
Hi,I am getting a four poster twin bed for my daughter. I am looking for some nice canopies, preferably in pink(as she likes Pink and Princess theme) which would cover the top of the poster(4 end poster are attached with wooden rods in between). Does anyone know of places where i can get these for good price? Also, can i use the regular window Panels(Tab Top or Tie Back) on these poster rails? Thanks

I think I know what you mean. They go over the top of the bed, and have a ruffle hanging down around the sides, kind of like a dust ruffle only for the canopy? I don't know where to get them, haven't seen them in years. If you can't find them, or while you are looking you could also get long sheer swags and loosely drape or wind them through the canopy slats, draw them over to the 4 posts, tie with a wide wire ribbon bow, and maybe add some silk flowers and greenery.I don't see why you couldn't use tap top window panels if you have a way to secure them. Maybe a very thin dowel rod secured with string or ribbon to the top rails, or use sturdy string in place of a rod, tacked down where it doesn't show.

A little tip from a person who had a canopy bed as a child. I do not know how active your daughter is, but when my dad put mine up I thought they where monkey-bars and bent them. They where so bad it could not be fixed so make sure they are pretty tough rods holding them up.

For a canopy try ebay's search. This can lead you to stores that do carry them. For drapery scarves and inexpensive rod pocket sheers check out Domestications bedding at www.domestications & get on their mailing list.

I would seriously recommend checking out fabric shower curtains. They are far less expensive than regular curtain panels (which you usually have to purchase one panel at a time!!!) and are larger. Try target, wal-mart, home goods, marshalls etc. I've used them in all of my homes as curtains and no one ever knew it! Or take a look at IKEA, they sell their curtains 2 panels in a package, are extremely affordable, and they are usually longer than standard curtain panels. Or go to your fabric center, and make your own panels. Nothing is easier than curtains!! You only need to sew straight lines! If you don't sew and don't have a friend who sews, ask the woman at the fabric center, she can refer you to someone who can do it for you. Cotton fabrics are usually very affordable or even use muslin (which is the cheapest fabric) and keep the panels white. P.S. You may want to consider attaching the panels to the bed using velcro. This will make removing them for cleaning easier, and won't allow any children to hang on them!

You might check a fabric store and look at their patterns, sometimes you can make your own cheaper.
