Blue and Red

chiclilme
I'm in a small apartment and want to paint. My living room is navy and beige with dark red accents (vase, frame, entry way rugs, pillows, and a throw). I don't want to paint too dark because I don't have much light in the space as it is, but I don't want to change my color scheme either. The other conflict is that this space is shared as a dining area, so the two will have to tie together. Any ideas?

Especially if you rent the apartment, I'm just not a big fan of really dark colors and would go with the most neutral shade. In your case, a beige or khaki color, and maybe do an accent wall in the navy or red. But that's me. If you crave color then go with a color. Even in a small apt, if you have the right scale furniture, keep furnishings simple and uncluttered, and have plenty of light, it will help keep it from appearing smaller.

as a former renter, i can say that it's better for you to paint with a lighter shade of paint. some landlords will be upset when you move, if you leave behind dark colored walls that will require multiple layers of paint to cover for the next tenant, and he may keep your security deposit for this......try a warm neutral paint color that isn't too dark that will coordinate with your decor and let the blue and red colors come into your space through your furniture, artwork and accessories (curtains and area rugs are also a great way to add color!!).
